Hau Giang Biomass Power Plant: Unit 2 Achieves National Grid Synchronization

Thursday private, 26/02/2025, 02:26

At 1:45 AM on February 22, 2025, the Hau Giang Biomass Power Plant successfully synchronized Unit 2 with the national grid. This achievement represents a critical project milestone, paving the way for the plant’s full commercial operation in the near future.

The synchronization of Unit 2 follows the successful grid connection of Unit 1 on January 26, 2025. This achievement represents a pivotal milestone, enabling the transition into the reliability testing phase. It ensures the plant remains on track for commercial operation, contributing a vital source of clean energy to the national power system.

This success not only accelerates the timeline toward Commercial Operation Date (COD) but also reaffirms the expertise of PECC2 as a premier EPC General Contractor, capable of delivering diverse and complex renewable energy projects

The Hau Giang Biomass Power Plant is invested in by the Hau Giang Biomass Energy JSC (HBE). Groundbreaking took place in December 2022 in Thuan An Ward, Long My Town, Hau Giang Province.

With an installed capacity of 20 MW (2x10 MW), the facility primarily utilizes rice husks—a common agricultural byproduct—as its main fuel source. Once fully operational, the plant will contribute approximately 130 million kWh annually to the national grid, making it the largest biomass power facility in the Mekong Delta.

The project is partially financed through the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) of the Japanese Government, administered by the Global Environment Centre Foundation (GEC). Beyond power generation, the plant plays a vital role in the circular economy by converting agricultural waste into clean energy, creating local employment, and driving sustainable economic growth in the region.
