PESE Marks the Start of Steel Fabrication for the Limestone and Gypsum Handling System at Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant

Recently, PESE held the First Steel Batch Sampling Ceremony at its Mechanical Production Center in Long Khanh Industrial Park, Dong Nai City, officially marking the start of steel structure fabrication for Package T22 – Limestone and Gypsum Handling System of the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant Project.

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Long Phu 1 Petroleum Power Project Management Board, Pacific Corporation, and PESE.

The event marked the official commencement of steel structure fabrication and production for the limestone and gypsum handling system at the Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant. It also represents an important milestone in PESE’s continued delivery of mechanical fabrication and steel structure solutions for large-scale energy projects.

The project will be implemented at PESE’s Mechanical Production Center in Long Khanh, Dong Nai, where the company will carry out the fabrication of steel structures for the material conveying system and transfer towers.


Nearly 3,000 Tons of Steel Structures for Limestone and Gypsum Handling

Under the scope of work, PESE has been entrusted with shop drawing development and steel structure fabrication for the conveyor system and transfer towers, with a total fabrication volume of nearly 3,000 tons.

These structures provide the primary support framework for the material handling system, enabling the continuous, stable, and safe transfer of limestone and gypsum between different functional areas of the plant.

As a result, the technical requirements for these steel structures go beyond load-bearing capacity. They also include fabrication accuracy, weld quality, dimensional control, constructability, and compliance with project-specific technical and quality requirements.

This requires a coordinated manufacturing process, rigorous quality control, and close coordination between engineering, fabrication, inspection, and project teams throughout the production cycle.


Supporting the Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) System

The limestone and gypsum handling system forms part of the material handling chain supporting the plant’s Limestone–Gypsum Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) system.

In the FGD process, limestone is introduced into the system to absorb and remove sulfur dioxide (SO₂) from flue gas. Following the chemical reaction and oxidation process, gypsum is generated and recovered as a by-product.

The overall material flow can be summarized as:

Limestone → Material Handling System → FGD System → SO₂ Removal → Gypsum → Material Handling System → Storage/Dispatch

Within this process, the conveyor systems and transfer towers fabricated by PESE serve as essential structural infrastructure for the transportation and transfer of materials.

Their role is to support the reliable movement of materials to the correct area and process stage while meeting the operational requirements of the overall system.

Therefore, PESE’s involvement in this package demonstrates not only its large-scale steel structure fabrication capability, but also its ability to deliver fabricated structures that are integrated with the process systems of major energy facilities.


Fabrication Capability: The Foundation for Project Schedule and Quality

With a total fabrication volume of nearly 3,000 tons, the project requires well-coordinated production planning, stringent quality control, and the ability to meet the project schedule.

From the first steel batch sampling ceremony, all parties have emphasized close coordination to ensure that fabrication activities are carried out according to plan while meeting the project’s technical specifications and quality standards.

The customer representatives highly appreciated PESE’s production capabilities and experience in fabricating steel structures for energy projects. Supporting the Long Phu 1 Key Energy Project

The Long Phu 1 Thermal Power Plant has a total capacity of 1,200 MW, comprising two generating units. It is a large-scale energy project in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region and is expected to contribute approximately 7 billion kWh of electricity annually to the national power system once operational.
